And here they are, Max and Oreo. They two daring brothers that run me ragged sometimes and at the same time, love cuddling with them, who wouldn’t, just look at them! They keep me on my toes and my my mind thinking because I learn so much from these guys. Remember, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear and boy have they taught me a few things. I took them off a friends hands a little over a year ago basically to have some company. But man, I have become their biggest fans! I talk about them like they were kids, and I share pictures of them all the time like a new father. I can’t get enough of them. I really want to get them a leash and take them for a walk in the spring, but I think the dogs in the neighbor hood would have something to say about that.
I love watching them play and fight. And boy do they fight. Usually I have to come between them to break it up, or squirt one of them with the water bottle. At night time when I’m watching a movie they gather around each other and start cleaning one another. Most nights they lay in bed with me and the mornings their ready for breakfast. When I come home from work, their waiting for me at the door and when I leave I can tell their kind of sad. Not much different from us huh?
See, us humans could learn a lot from cats, heck, any animal to be exact. There is a reason animals are mentioned many time in scripture, I believe, sometimes to teach us. Now I know this can sound a little absurd, much less crazy, but hear me out before you delete me. Like the brotherly love that hey share. Yes they are brothers, but by human standards, are we not called to love our brother as ourselves? Don’t humans fight over the dumbest things only to make up minutes later with a hug or a handshake. We of the human nature are so inclined to bad behavior that makes me think, “are we not the animals?”
We are indeed “animals” and the only one who can tame us is Christ. When we give Him everything we got, He tames us and teaches us a new way to live. Not much different than humans and animals huh? Man likes to tame the wild beast, to leap over buildings and walk through fire just to prove it doesn’t burn, all the while getting scorched by the desires of the flesh. Men can be violent creatures or the most loving and respected in the city, witch ever way you are, were not that much different than my cats. Max and Oreo enjoy a certain kind of food and if I buy something different, they twirl their tails and do an about face looking at me like I’m crazy. Humans are the same way. We call it the “King Baby Syndrome” in recovery. “I want what I want and I want it now!” Sound familiar?
Now I’m not trying to say that they should vote(though I did try to claim max and Oreo at tax time and the guy looked at me funny) I’m just saying take a look at the animals that live with you.(children don’t count) and try to see something in them that reminds you of you and apply it to your life, you’ll be amazed by the results. Too many times we just think their there for enjoyment, which is true, but I also do believe God planted that dog, or cat, or whatever animal you call a pet, to teach you something. Take a look around and see what they see.
Thanks for reading!! Be Blessed!!!
|1 John 4:20-21“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”
