Max and Oreo: Brotherly Love and Cat Fights.

                               OREO                                                                              MAX

And here they are, Max and Oreo. They two daring brothers that run me ragged sometimes and at the same time, love cuddling with them, who wouldn’t, just look at them! They keep me on my toes and my my mind thinking because I learn so much from these guys. Remember, when the student is ready, the teacher will appear and boy have they taught me a few things. I took them off a friends hands a little over a year ago basically to have some company. But man, I have become their biggest fans! I talk about them like they were kids, and I share pictures of them all the time like a new father. I can’t get enough of them. I really want to get them a leash and take them for a walk in the spring, but I think the dogs in the neighbor hood would have something to say about that.

I love watching them play and fight. And boy do they fight. Usually I have to come between them to break it up, or squirt one of them with the water bottle. At night time when I’m watching a movie they gather around each other and start cleaning one another. Most nights they lay in bed with me and the mornings their ready for breakfast. When I come home from work, their waiting for me at the door and when I leave I can tell their kind of sad. Not much different from us huh?

See, us humans could learn a lot from cats, heck, any animal to be exact. There is a reason animals are mentioned many time in scripture, I believe, sometimes to teach us. Now I know this can sound a little absurd, much less crazy, but hear me out before you delete me. Like the brotherly love that hey share. Yes they are brothers, but by human standards, are we not called to love our brother as ourselves?  Don’t humans fight over the dumbest things only to make up minutes later with a hug or a handshake. We of the human nature are so inclined to bad behavior that makes me think, “are we not the animals?”

We are indeed “animals” and the only one who can tame us is Christ. When we give Him everything we got, He tames us and teaches us a new way to live. Not much different than humans and animals huh? Man likes to tame the wild beast, to leap over buildings and walk through fire just to prove it doesn’t burn, all the while getting scorched by the desires of the flesh. Men can be violent creatures or the most loving and respected in the city, witch ever way you are, were not that much different than my cats. Max and Oreo enjoy a certain kind of food and if I buy something different, they twirl their tails and do an about face looking at me like I’m crazy. Humans are the same way. We call it the “King Baby Syndrome” in recovery. “I want what I want and I want it now!” Sound familiar?

Now I’m not trying to say that they should vote(though I did try to claim max and Oreo at tax time and the guy looked at me funny) I’m just saying take a look at the animals that live with you.(children don’t count) and try to see something in them that reminds you of you and apply it to your life, you’ll be amazed by the results. Too many times we just think their there for enjoyment, which is true, but I also do believe God planted that dog, or cat, or whatever animal you call a pet, to teach you something. Take a look around and see what they see.

Thanks for reading!! Be Blessed!!!

1 John 4:20-21“Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”

Now I can already hear it now, “why is this guy blogging about his cats, and what possible lesson could be learned from them?” Oh the joy of blogging, that I love is I can write about anything I want!! Its my blog deal with it! Max and Oreo have been in my life for a little over a year now, given to me by a friend when they were only kittens. Still kittens they are and they are a hand full. I no they don’t look like kittens that’s because I feed them very well.(They eat better than me!) The one on the left is Max(he has a black nose) and on the right is the one and only Oreo.(Pink nose). Oreo as you can see is the bigger one and Max, well lets just say he’s not to far behind. Max is more of the lover and Oreo is the eater and disobedient one. There is always a black sheep in every family.

I have to keep a spray bottle full of water just to use on Oreo when he gets in trouble. I spray him a couple of times and usually he gets it. Max I have only had to spray him once and that was when he ate my candy bar= Max throwing up all over the place= a couple of squirts with the water, and he hasn’t eaten my candy bar since. Now Oreo I have to spray him a few time a day because he always like to play with the cord to my lap top. Oreo keeps on doing it so I have to keep on spraying him with water (Calm down P.E.T.A it’s a squirt bottle not a fire hose).  Time and time again I have to spray him and sometimes I wonder if he’s ever going to learn.

Not to different than us, Huh? When we keep doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different result. Just like Oreo, he thinks that I wont squirt him with the water bottle but I do. In other words, insanity is what I’m trying to get  at here. We as human beings keep trying to do the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. Why? Its in our nature I believe to be stupid sometimes. Harsh but true. Its like the old saying if you put your hand on a hot stove, eventually your going to get burned. Steaming mad To often we try the same old thing and in the end, we get the same result. This is the part were I myself have to give it to God, and then He can show me a new way. A new way to try it that will succeed because its His way, and not our own. God wants complete control of our lives, not just part of it, but all of it. When we finally come to the conclusion that His way is always the better way, then we can stop hitting our head on the wall and go through the door of grace.

I no through my life there was many times that I tried to quit drinking on  my own, only to lead back to the bottle or an unsavory mistress for the night. Time and time again I would try but only fall harder on the next binge or drunken stupor. When I finally gave it all to the Lord, that’s when I was able to quit drinking and rely on Him for everything I need. Now, there are times still to this day that I find myself hitting my head on the wall and when I do it enough time I turn it over to a loving God who has been waiting the whole time anyways, and He is more than happy to take it.

So let me ask you my friend, is there a wall your banging your head on right now? Give it to God and see how amazing things turn out.
