Spiritual Leaders we Need, Not Boys.

Hello all!!! Its been a while since I have posted, I’ve had some much need Godtime, ya know, spending time with Him, and how awesome it is that He loves us!! Just a little update, I am finally working on my résumé and getting it out to some hopeful employers next week. When I was laid off in May I decided to take a couple of months off to just be still and listen to God, and boy has He been speaking. That’s always a wonderful thing when God speaks and we can actually hear Him, but the trick is to do what He says. I have followed the news lately, different news outlets and blogs and I have realized this important truth: This world of ours needs Jesus more than ever. The one thing I am passionate about as some of you may know is  learning how to be a Godly man, a courageous man and put those two together and hopefully a Godly, courageous husband and father.

We just finished up our 8 week courageous bible study and here’s a quote I want to share from the book The Resolution for Men: When you break it all down and track it all back, the key to any man’s success–as a husband, a father, and everything else—-is his own personal walk with God.

This pathetic society tells us to work hard, go to school, get good grades and you will be a success. Those are all fine and dandy but the one truth that everyone needs to know and understand, if it’s not done for the glory of God, its worth nothing, period. Schools give us an education and training for a career, but who trains us to be a real man and a real father? Who teaches us to stand up for whats right and good and who shows us how to really treat a woman? In my opinion, only the one who created the heavens and the earth. I really get fired up about this topic because I see so many men, who thin their men, but in actuality their only a child still sucking their thumb. How in the hell can you lead your family if your on the couch playing video games all day? You can’t!

When the so-called men in this country, who are actually boys in a mans body decide to take a stand for Christ, and become the men they were called to be and develop their own walk with God, then and only then will we see change. A walk built on Christ, one that shouts out to all the world by your actions alone that you’re a Christian and you settle for nothing less than the best, that’s when we see change. The old “John Wayne” days are over, you cannot pull yourself up by your boot straps because you’re the only one pulling. We have to let Christ live in us and develop a strong walk with Him, then and only then do we go from pathetic sperm donors sitting on the couch playing video games to true “MEN OF HONOR.”

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

I absolutely love this, and Paul wasn’t joking one bit when he said “All Scripture,” and the key word is “ALL.” What does this mean? All of it, the bible is God-breathed and is useful even to this day. The other day I was reading about someone who was trying to say the bible didn’t apply to today’s society.   Really, if there was ever a time that this world and culture of ours needs scripture, needs God, the time is now.

The bible has been tested through the ages and time and time again its been proven correct. People have tried to prove it wrong, but in the end the bible always wins out. It has been falsely accused and banned in some country’s and still its the most sought out book in history. It always prevails and it always trumps anything humanity could come up with on the way we are supposed to live.

I have found that people don’t want to accept the truths of scripture because they don’t want to admit they need help. They don’t want to admit that the way their living is wrong and then scream the bible and the church are wrong. I see it all the time, people need the hand of God in their lives, but refuse anything He has to offer, because they “know better.” I was talking to a guy the other day and he was trying to tell me that living an adulterers life was OK, that “everyone does it.” Really? Well I’m here to tell yo that not everyone does it that’s for sure.

Scripture was given to us by God so we can learn about His awesomeness and His love for us. It teaches us how to get along with God, and with other people. It is the foundation for life and the undisputed word of God. The biggest problem with society today is “Political Correctness,” saying things that make people feel good. Well I’m not a politician so I refuse to be political correct. Last night I  was having coffee with a friend whose a teacher for second and third graders, and she was telling me that they can’t tell the students they got an “F” because it hurts the students feelings! This is why young people don’t stand a chance these days because their feelings get hurt if they get a bad grade.

When I was growing up we had to work for our grades, and if we didn’t work for our grades then we failed, end of story. This society we live in is so worried about hurting people’s feelings that just saying “Hi” to someone could get us locked up. Let me fill you in on a little secret, if your feelings get hurt by something I said, good!! Take it up with God because that’s were the problem lye’s, not being right with Him, and the majority of society isn’t right with Him, so there little feelings will get hurt.

Scripture is the only thing, the only way to truly know God. Its meant for loving us and teaching us and rebuking us, and this is exactly what this society of ours needs today.

Running to Your Arms.

Running to the arms of the King and not looking back. You are good, when there is nothing ever good in me, and I’m running to your arms holding nothing back, my heart will sing your name oh Jesus. This is my theme for the summer, running to the arms of the one who created it all, from the heavens to the earth and the stars in the sky, I will run to His arms.

My whole life consisted of meaningless chasing of the wind; Bottles and babes, booze and needles, pain and darkness all consumed me like a burning fire from the pits of hell. I lived and loved, died and came back again, and through it all I have never experienced a love like that of Christs. He breathed the breath of life into me and gave me a direction to go, and go I will in the direction He wants. This summer I am going back to the beginning when I started this journey to gain a new perspective of life and what God wants me to do next.

Refine me Oh Lord, melt me, and mold me into the man you want me to be Oh Lord. Give me strength to proceed and to believe and to do your will–Amen.

If there’s one thing I have learned, is we have to run to His arms daily. This means when life is great, we run to His arms. When life is not so great, we run to His arms. His arms are the only safe place to be, so this summer I am running like a cheetah into the arms of Him who is greater than the world.

Quit trying to Quit, Just Surrender..

I Surrender All

I Surrender All (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I heard this last night at a meeting and wow! It hit me like a brick because I have struggled lately with an issue and my problem is I was trying to quit and not surrender. I’m thankful that I have surrendered and the Lord has removed the issue I was struggling with, only when I stopped quitting and surrendered.

Surrender seems like a weak word in today’s society seeing how everyone tries to be independent only to fall by the wayside shaking their heads wondering why they fell. Surrender is not only strength but its courage as well, because we have to surrender to Christ to become strong.” In my weakness He is strong” is a very real, life changing verse in many ways. One is that when I realize how weak and pathetic I am on my own, that’s when He is strong.

But the key is I have to surrender, not quit, there is a difference. Quitting is the cowards way out. Quitters are the ones that have given up on life and have no hope. People who surrender are the true champions in life because they are the one’s who have come to Christ and let Him change them. I have heard it so many times from people, “I will change when I’m ready.” No you wont because it is humanly impossible to change on our own. Without God, there will be no change in one’s life.

When the Lord say’s to “surrender all to Him,” He means, “all.” Not just the things we want to or the things we feel like giving Him, but ALL. Good and bad and then He in his majestic grace cleans us and forgives our sins as far as the east is from the west.  But we have to surrender every day, not just when we feel like it. Remember when Paul says “he dies to self everyday” well that’s the point. We have to die to ourselves and surrender to Him to gain strength.

We were made in the image and likeness of our creator which tells me we are all beautiful people because God is beautiful. It is such a humble feeling to know that the God of the universe, wants me to surrender my life to Him.  It’s a necessity for this guy to surrender every day because I know where I could end up if I don’t, and that’s not a place I want to go back to. (This is the point were you say to your self “Self, I wonder what kind of life he lived before Christ?” then you go back to check out the rest of my blog, its good stuff!)

So on that note I am signing of for the evening as I prepare to go watch the Senior PGA tour in the morning and enjoy a long weekend, so till next time my friends; Run your race, fight the good fight and remember that you bear the image of God, you may be the only Christian some people will ever meet, what will you do?

Continue, continue, continue………….

Scripture tells us that when we confess our sins we are free indeed, but that’s not a one time thing. A lot of people believe that when we accept Christ, confess our sins and everything’s fine and dandy right? Don’t get me wrong when we accept Christ into our hearts we are a new people, no question, but we have to continue. What do I mean by continue, well its the steps we take as a Christian to grow more Christ-like in everything we do and say. We have to have continue, or be subject to a stalemate.

Stalemate im sure you’ve heard before but let me give a different definition; Staying the same and doing nothing to grow as a Christian or a human. Sounds pretty harsh but isn’t it true? Think about it, every time we choose to go our own way and do things our way, it’s not only direct disobedience to God, but we also start slipping little by little back into that old life and old way of thinking. When we let the pleasures of the flesh  win out, we become stalemate.

I’ve had this happen several times since I have been a Christian and as I look back I’m saddened that I missed opportunities to serve our Lord in some capacity. When I think I know better and when I think I can handle it (which I can’t) I fall back into that old way of thinking and soon I can be doing things I don’t want to do. That’s why today I have to stay vigilant in my studies of the word and service because I don’t want to go back to that life again.

Ya see, that life I used to live is how the world lives today. It’s not how God wants us to live so today I choose to live for God because His ways are way better than anything I could come up with. Unfortunately there are a lot of Christian that still live in the world. Oh yea, they come to church and sing some songs and say a few Amen‘s,  but that’s the extent of the relationship with the Lord. For some Christians it’s all about popularity and being seen and not worshiping Christ and what He’s done for us.

Let me fill you in on a little secret; If you’re coming to church and proclaiming to be a Christian for social status and praise from men, your missing the boat! Church is who we are, not were we go. Church is everyday, 24/7/365 days of the year, the relationships that we form at church are just a bonus. The relationships we have with other Christians are God-ordained and meant for encouragement and prayers, not a popularity contest or a queen contest, stop being fake.

Thats another way we become stalemate is when were worried about what others think of us. I struggled with this for years when I realized that God loved me right were I was, so what difference did it matter what other thought? None. All I want to do is grow closer to my heavenly father today, and I cannot do that if I’m concerned about “what others think.”

Continue, continue, continue is how I want to live today. Continue in the faith, continue growing and becoming more Christ-like and becoming more of the man God wants me to be. How about you???

"Adolescence"

"Adolescence" (Photo credit: Ko:(char *)hook)

Hello blogging friends!! I haven’t posted in a while because I was getting ready for a Christian weekend for teens called Deco-Tec. I had the opportunity to serve alongside some of the most God fearing teens I have ever seen before. Our theme verse for the weekend was 1Timothy 4:12 “Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example to the believers in life, in speech, in love, in faith, in purity.” And boy did these teens live up to that verse and more!

I was called to give a talk on this weekend and though I have given my testimony before, this time it was different for it was in front of about 55 teens and the Holy Spirit moved in a big way. My talk was entitled “The Singles talk” explaining life of a single Christian man and the struggles. I felt lead though to divide my talk into two different worlds.” Before Christ” and” after Christ.” I was a little hesitant I must admit about giving full detail of the life before Christ, but as I was getting prayed in by the spiritual directors and lay leaders I heard the Holy Spirit say “pour it all out,” and that’s what I did, raw emotion, holding nothing back for God to be revealed in the life of his servant.

Teens these days struggle with everything from suicide, to drug and alcohol abuse, to sexual temptations and actions, all of which I have partaken in at some point in my life. With no hope they act on their emotions or the peer pressure from other teens and in the end realize theirs more to life than just living for the flesh or the desires of the world. If our teens today are our future, they need Godly people in their lives to mentor, love them, and guide them in the ways of Christ, not the world.

One thing I noticed was and it brought tears to my heart is how much pain in teens lives today. You read about, see it on T.V and hear about it from friends, but until you come face to face with it in the lives of teens, that’s when it becomes real and unquestionable with what they face. Their hurts and struggles are as real as it gets and brings tears to my eyes because I have put it off long enough working with teens.

God moved in me this past weekend like a great rushing wave and spoke to my heart speaking these words very clearly “they need you” and more times than not I heard it over the weekend and I have felt it for a long time but I feel that now is the time I started to work with the youth at our church. I feel they need to see the real life example of someone who went to the depths of hell and pulled out by Christ himself. They need to hear that there is hope, and that hope is in Christ.

God and the teens have humbled me over the past weekend because I never really thought my testimony, my story could turn the life of anyone, boy was I wrong! It was a great and humbling experience to be involved with so many wonderful and beautiful teens this weekend, hearing their story, their struggles, and just think, if this was just 50 or so teens that are hurting, that means our jobs as adults are only beginning, because theirs more teens out their in the world with no hope.

This is were the healing begins.

Broken, tired, beat down from my own prison, I escaped into a world of complete darkness. I was hurting; hurting to the very core of my soul and the only thing that ever made it feel better was the bottle on the floor, or the mistress of the night. Lurking around every corner I searched for these things like a treasure hunter looking for lost treasure at the bottom of the ocean. I was all but forgotten in my little world and I had forgotten myself.

Traveling through bars and alleys, taverns and brothels, I tried to find this one thing, but I was unsure of what this one thing was. In my heart of hearts I knew, but couldn’t admit it, because I had lost all hope, so I figured He had lost hope in me also. Through the darkness and pain, I remain. I remain because He never lost faith in me. He never stopped believing in me and He never stopped loving me. He’s loved me, blessed me, anointed me, and breathed the breath of life into me. His name is like honey on my lips and like a beautiful woman, brings me to my knees.

This is where the healing begins; this is where the broken become whole and the sinners become royalty. When I came to Christ, he unlocked me from my own prison and set me free; free indeed. I no longer chase hallow dreams and whitewashed fantasies because those only lead to misery and despair. The only true freedom a man can know, is the freedom in Christ. Heck, I have met inmates that are freer than those on the outside, why? Because they know Christ.

Ya see, He is the only one that can mend the broken, and heal the sick. He”s jealous for us, loves us, cares for us, and nurtures us. This is where the healing begins, this is where your weakness becomes strength, and you hurt becomes love. He cleans us from the inside out and strengthens us to do extra-ordinary things. The God-man Jesus Christ has set us free, free indeed.

So, if you’re hurting today, or maybe the bottle or the needle has you doing things you wouldn’t do. Maybe its sex, or porn, or unfaithfulness, whatever it is, Christ can heal you. Christ can take those things and forget them as far as the east is to the west, he just ask, “Come, follow me.” Will you?
